In the heart of Provence, Avignon was once the hub of the Christian world and has been left with an impressive architectural legacy including the UNESCO World Heritage Palais des Papes.
Avignon is surrounded by towering 14th century ramparts of golden stone. The Provencal town was once the centre of the Roman Catholic world and its mild climate and beautiful architecture now makes it a charming and romantic place to visit. Avignon is centered on the Place de l’Horloge, a picturesque square lined with cafes and their terraces where you can take a break from shopping in the bustling market. The Palais des Papes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Europe’s most striking medieval buildings, particularly at night with its breathtaking illuminations. The hilltop Rocher des Doms park is a perfect place to enjoy the panoramic views of the famous Pont d’Avignon.
