Explore Brittany, Celtic traditions, neolithic mysteries and culinary delights

Brittany Boating Holidays. Take the helm of your boat and explore the beautiful winding waterways of Brittany – a magical and mysterious region rich in traditions that welcomes you to discover its historical treasures, natural sites and excellent culinary experiences.

You have two departure bases to choose from

Glénac

The base at Glenac in the Morbihan sits close to where the Nantes to Brest Canal meets La Vilaine and l’Erdre rivers. Head on to the Nantes to Brest Canal and moor at Josselin. Visit its imposing castle and then on to the pretty village of Malestroit with its half-timbered houses. The village of La Gacilly on the Aff close to the Glenac is a typically little Breton village with flower lined lanes & arts and crafts workshops and glass blowers.

Cruise south along the winding Vilaine River, a 40 km stretch of water without locks and leading to the port of Roche Bernard and the Arzal dam. Northbound towards Rennes, a university town and capital of Brittany before heading on to Dinan with its 13th century ramparts, whilst the Erdre will take you to Nantes, on a route lined with castles.

Sucé-sur-Erdre

Sucé-sur-Erdre is a pretty little village to discover before setting sail. There’s a cafe and restaurant next to the base that overlook the picturesque small marina with a handy little supermarket nearby. Head south on the l’Erdre river and discover Nantes where there’s plenty of mooring available in the centre and from where you can explore the town on foot. Nantes was once the busiest port in France and there’s a rich maritime history to discover. Heading west from Sucé, the winding river will take you through the delightful countryside and communes of Bout de Bis and Blain. There’s some great cycle paths along the towpath that are really well signposted. Blain is a good pitstop and the medieval Chateau de la Groulaie on the opposite bank is a picturesque backdrop.

Rennes & Dinan: from both bases, head north on the Vilaine River.

Rennes is the capital of Brittany. There’s plenty of mooring in the city centre from where you can explore on foot. Rennes is also a lively uni town with lots of great bars, bistros and restaurants to enjoy. There’s a great market on Saturdays.

Dinan is a lovely typical Breton town with plenty of mooring (make sure you call the port master beforehand). There a lots of great cafes and restaurants and a good boulangerie near the marina. The lively market on Thursday in the town centre is worth a visit.

Rennes and Dinan are reachable on 2 weeks duration from both bases.
