River Lot, steep limestone gorges and perched villages
Enjoy the wonderful Lot region
The River Lot Boating Holidays. The tree lined banks wind through the Midi-Pyrenees in the heart of the South West of France. It’s a region that benefits from a great climate where spring arrives early and autumn is delayed.
There’s a rich cultural heritage to discover. The river has been an important trading route since the middle ages and there are some amazing scenery to enjoy on the routes like the limestone angular cliffs, riverside villages and an abundance of natural beauty & wildlife. The Malbec vineyards surrounding the town of Cahors have been making delicious wine since Roman times.
Your base
Cahors
Cahors is a highlight as you enjoy navigating under the Valentré Bridge. This UNESCO World Heritage site spans the Lot with three imposing fortified towers. The town centre with its ochre coloured buildings and medieval streets is worth taking the time to discover. There’s a great market by the cathedral on Wednesdays & Saturdays and it’s perfect to pick up some local delicacies before you head off on your adventure.
The Lot river is perfect for swimming, fishing or simply taking in the its natural beauty. There are 17 manual locks spanning the 74Km of waterways. You will enjoy the breathtaking landscapes, the typical Quercy red tiled villages with their narrow alleys and tall church spires. A stop definitely worth planning is at the historic river harbour of St-Cirq-Lapopie, with its village perched on a rocky spur and looking out over the majestic Lot valley.
