The medieval first city of Flanders, Lille truly is the underrated gem of Northern France. The city has a Flemish feel with quaint cobbled streets and vast squares. Its a thriving metropolis with great shopping, eateries, museums and galleries.

Lille, situated in Northern France in the area of French Flanders, is easily reached by Eurostar train from central London in 1 ½ hours and provides the ideal setting for a relaxing city break with French Leave Holidays.

The city has an abundance of restaurants, bars, a wide range of hotels many a short walk from the Lille-Europe station, and a vibrant shopping experience. You will also find a city with a feast of Flemish architecture including the Grand Place and Basilica of Notre Dame de la Treille. For art lovers, Lille is home to the Musee d’Art Moderne and the Palais des Beaux Arts and the whole family will love a visit to the Parc de Zoologique.

There is an excellent public transport system although many of the main attractions are within easy walking distance of the central hotels.
A city tour, organised by the local tourist office, is a great way to get your bearings or why not take advantage of the City Pass giving free access to many places plus discounts in some restaurants and shops.

The easiest way to travel to Lille is by Eurostar train from central London in 1 ½ hours with up to 10 trains per day. Alternatively you can drive via the channel tunnel or ferry with Lille only an hour away from Calais.
