Strasbourg, Capital of the Alsace region and a delightful cosmopolitan city packed with things to see and do.

The Petite France district know as Little Venice is a beautiful part of the city, irrigated by the river Ill.
The peaceful Benjamin Zix Square, adorned by plane trees, has great views of the river and the typical timbered houses.
The old town, a warren of streets lined with timber houses, is on an island with the river on one side and a canal on the other. The whole island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its skyline dominated by the Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral. This is the tallest church in France with magnificent stained-glass windows dating back to the 12th century. Wander the cobbled pedestrianised streets and alleyways surrounding the cathedral and enjoy the bars, cafés and restaurants.

Strasbourg is home to France’s second largest student population and the EU Quarter merges modern and medieval architecture in style – making Strasbourg a cosmopolitan, bustling and attractive place to visit.

The Winstubs: Traditional Alsation eateries, Winstubs were originally places where winemakers would sell off their surplus inventory by operating restaurants in their own premises. These are relaxed bistros where you eat in a casual, homely atmosphere at tables draped with red chequered tablecloths.

Traditional dishes and authentic decor, it offers the full range of Alsatian gastronomy. For example, you can try some Wädele (ham), Grumbeerekiechle (potato pancakes), Lewerknepfle (liver dumplings), Presskopf (head cheese), Bibeleskäs (creamy white cheese seasoned with garlic and herbs), and, finally, Bäckeoffe and Choucroute.

Public Transport: It’s a compact city, perfect to discover on foot. However, it also well served by an excellent public transport network. There are 29 bus routes and 7 tram lines that are great value and the main tourist sites are clearly marked on the on-board maps.

Cycle hire: The city has a shared bike rental scheme called VEL’HOP as well as private bike rentals. It’s a fabulous city to cycle around with 500 kms of cycle paths.
